Cornucopia

The cornucopia or horn of plenty is a symbol of abundance and nourishment, shown as a horn-shaped container overflowing with produce, flowers or nuts. This symbol is normally seen around the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in North America. It remains a symbol of prosperity and good living to all. May your Cornucopia be full with all good things in 2017.

Mission San Miguel

Beautiful Mission San Miguel was founded more than 200 years ago in San Luis Obispo County eight miles north of Paso Robles, California.  A favorite mission for its country-like setting, the area has grown around the mission in the town of San Miguel located in the central coast of California.  Ink and watercolor.

Spectacular Courthouse

This beautiful courthouse is still being used in Auburn, California, and remains a very majestic historical monument. Travelers on I-80 East will see this building on the hill to the right as they pass by the town of Auburn. Built in 1894, this structure is still open to the public and is one of northern California’s popular landmarks for tourists. Ink and watercolor.

Sketch Crawl In Truckee

Truckee, California, is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range 100 miles east of Sacramento and 12 miles north of Lake Tahoe. Highway I-80 runs through Truckee, as does Amtrak. In September I spent some time here sketching the downtown area. The weather was warm, tourist traffic was heavy and I found some quiet places to sit and draw. This scene is a section of downtown drawn from the corner of the Amtrak depot. Ink and watercolor.

Pumpkin Patch Season

Now is the time where most pumpkin patches are thriving. Now that Halloween is here and gone many of the patches are a shell of what they were a month ago. But most of the pumpkins found homes and were carved up and lit up to show their scary masks. Ink and watercolor.

Dr. Frankenstein's Creation

I have always enjoyed any of the Frankenstein movies that have been produced through the years. Love the black and white film, scary noises the music and rainy, dark nights. But most of all I like the extra large creation brewed up by the doctor. I don’t know if he even has a name but I call him Frankenstein which I think is good enough. Halloween time is the perfect time of year for this monster to appear out of the shadows. Ink and watercolor.

My Favorite Chicago Cub

The Chicago Cubs are in the playoffs in hopes of getting to the World Series after an amazing baseball season. My favorite Cub is not any one player but the little Cub patch on the shoulder. This little Cub was seen on many of the older uniforms and this is what it looked liked on the shoulder of the great Ernie Banks, maybe one of the greatest Cub of all. SOLD

Long Lines

This drawing should remind travelers of the long lines they sometimes face at airports—not that they must be reminded. My people are a cross section of travelers you might see in line, not knowing exactly when their plane will be departing or arriving. Luckily, they can use their cell phones or computers but also read or chat with others—none of which is comfortable when standing for lengthy periods of time.
Ink and watercolor.

Little Shoes

When you have little ones staying at your home you might find cute little shoes laying around. There may have been socks with these shoes but they are no where to be found. These little shoes are placed neatly but that is because I organized them. We don't have little ones around our home much anymore but I do remember the days when organizing  little shoes was a daily chore. Ink and watercolor.

A Tropical Beach

Scenes like this remind me of what a perfect vacation spot would look like. With lots of sun we see fresh looking trees, beautiful tropical waters and green/brown hills as a background. A special bonus is that we notice there is no trash and no people. Complete solitude. Relax and enjoy this vacation scene. Ink and watercolor.

A Santorini Sketch

I am posting another one of my Greek Island sketches—again from Santorini. I have never been there before. I drew this from a photograph but this is one place I would like to visit.  As with all my sketches and paintings, I have added more color than you would see in the real structures. Ink and watercolor.

A Country Mailbox

Colorful winter morning skies appear through leafless trees onto a lonely rural mailbox. Rural mail boxes still exist all over our country. I love them. Reminds me of the old days while growing up in the countryside.
Ink and watercolor.

San Francisco Apartment

A wonky, loose painting focuses on a typical apartment top which could be found in San Francisco. Done quickly and loose, this painting shows that a drawing does not need to look exactly as it appears in real life. Every line is crooked, main structure looks flimsy and colors are not like the real thing. But by taking artist freedoms a new impression is formed and it is one of a kind and fun to do.

Someone Is Watching You

This little sketch of a nose and an eye makes it look like someone may be watching you through your computer screen. This small sketch was done very quickly or in art terms I call it --"Quick and dirty". Ink and watercolor.

Summer At Lake Tahoe

This large painting shows a calm shoreline somewhere at Lake Tahoe located in the north eastern part of California. The waters are still cool even during summer and visitors can enjoy the transparent waters in the shallows. At this time of the year, thousands of visitors enjoy swimming, water skiing, sightseeing and pleasant temperatures.

Sketching In Lincoln

This is an early morning July
view of the clock tower located
in the Twelve Bridges Shopping
Center in Lincoln, CA.
Most of the drawing was done at
the site. With photos from my camera,
I was able to define details and add the
watercolor washes in the comforts of
my home.

Ink and watercolor.

Entering Auburn

This scene is what a traveler sees as he exits I-80 in lower Auburn, California. This part of the town is known as old Auburn and is still a favorite stopping point for tourists to visit old stores, bars and updated restaurants. There is much to do and see but beware of the many tourists and limited parking.
Ink and watercolor.

New Mexico Back Country

My country landscape painting is an impression of what I consider to be typical in the state of New Mexico in the USA. You see lots of wide open country with long stretches of lonely highways, shrubs, trees and even hefty mountain ranges. If it’s open territory you like, New Mexico has it. Ink and watercolor.

Sacramento Solons

In the 1950s, our family would travel to Sacramento to see the AAA baseball team play in the Pacific Coast League. We loved to see them play at Edmonds Field. This painting shows the entrance to the ball park which always seemed crowded with people and cars. It is a nostalgic impression of a scene way back when I was a teenager. Ink and watercolor.

My Favorite Passenger Car

When I was young, I loved the last car of passenger trains. I dreamed I could ride in the comfy seat of this last car and watch the rails disappear in the distance. I still love these cars and wish they were still on every Amtrak passenger train. Ink and watercolor.

Old Village Sketch

Lots of ink lines define this village scene where the buildings are made of stone and adobe roofs and streets of cobblestone. With no autos in sight and very few people, I imagine this would be a very quiet and peaceful street scene. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

San Francisco Street Corner

My painting depicts a typical corner in downtown San Francisco. There is not a store called “T & E”, that is merely a ficticious name. I like the detail in this painting but the scene does not even come close to showing the energy in this city. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Auburn Historical

This painting is of the historic Tahoe Building located in the middle of Auburn, California. I remember it as a teenager and today it is still stands tall and proud. It seems there have been many businesses that have occupied the first floor and I remember the upstairs being used for banquets. For those who live in Auburn and pass by it daily there may be hardly a notice of this old building. When I visit Auburn, I always pay special attention. Mixed media.

Wheatland High Rise

Wheatland is a small town in the Sacramento valley near where we live. This beautiful old high rise structure looks like a once-busy processing facility near the railroad tracks that run through the town. What it processed I do not know. The rusting sheet metal enhances the beauty of this building which is still being used by somebody. The birds love it and only the trains that roar by break the silence. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Southwest USA

This ink and watercolor sketch displays a sprawling vista of desert, river and mountains in the southwest section of the USA. This could be a scene from the states of Arizona, New Mexico or maybe Utah. You decide. Maybe you have been here.

San Diego Victorian

While visiting San Diego last August, I found some time to sketch this beautiful Victorian building near Balboa Park. This building is a tax and financial office. I sent the owners a card of this image and they offered to purchase the original painting. They received the painting and hopefully have it hung inside. SOLD

The Long Season Begins

In the United States, one of our most popular sports begins with the major league baseball season in April. Little leaguers, high schoolers and collegians are already in full swing and now the professionals begin. How long is the season—it starts now and ends in October when the World Series concludes. Spectators are exhausted when the season has ended. Ink and watercolor.

Cows relax in a beautiful valley they call “home” where mountains and pine trees liven up the background. Looks like mother nature has been kind to this luscious countryside.

Still In Business

Gladding, McBean is still in business and produces ceramic products to customers world-wide. Located north of Sacramento in the small town of Lincoln, it remains in operation at the same location as when it opened in 1875. The old buildings are perfect for any artist to produce their impressions as I did in
ink and watercolor.

Night Light

A lonely, quiet walk way is brought to
life by a night light whose rays provide
interesting shadows someplace in a far
away city. Is it 10 PM or 3 AM?
No one really knows. It’s just quiet.

Rainbow Bridge At Donner Summit

This old structure is located near the top of Donner Summit on the Old Highway 40 between Reno and Sacramento. I remember it as I was growing up when my parents would take us to Donner Lake. Today, it is awesome as ever and still offers a beautiful view of the lake below. Ink and watercolor. Purchase art at http://terry-banderas.pixels.com/ SOLD

Cargo Ship Terminal

This painting was done several years ago above the cargo ship terminal at Benicia, California, about 30 miles east of San Francisco. Large cargo ships meander up the Carquinez Strait to unload and load their cargo. The day was beautiful, scenery spectacular and I ate my sack lunch while completing most of the painting. Ink and watercolor.

Super Bowl Week

The long football season is coming to an end with the Super Bowl. My drawing shows what some of the action may look like. I am not rooting for either team but I will enjoy the game. I drew this looking at photos from my computer screen. Lots of lines and very little color. Ink pens on bristol.

Old Tractor

Several years ago, this beautiful old tractor was parked next to a country road with a "For Sale" sign on it. The tractor has been gone for years since I painted it. Some one has used the old parts that were available or renovated the tractor and is using it to cultivate the land. Ink and watercolor.
