Dogs At Attention

These dogs look as if they are paying attention to what I am telling them. They seem to be at attention even though they have perplexed, thirsty looks on their faces. For many dog owners, you may notice a dog that looks like your pet. Ink and watercolor.

Golden Hills Of California

These golden hills are beautiful. In summer, the dry grasses surround the green oak trees providing an interesting contrast to thousands of acres of green crops growing on the valley floor. After the winter rains, the grasses then change to stunning greens until the heat of summer changes the colors back again. It's an annual cycle that never ends. Ink and watercolor.

Hot Air Balloons

When these balloons go up on a beautiful sunny morning they are beautiful to watch. They are so low you can hear the pilots yelling to you. Would I like to fly in one? Probably not. I am content to sip on a hot cup of coffee in a chair on solid ground. Ink and watercolor.

Two Barns

At times, it's fun to change the way I normally paint and do something different. Bold lines and vivid colors make up this rural painting. I found the painting was easy to do since everything does not look real so I did not need to be exact. I will try this style again one of these days. Ink and watercolor.

When Steam Was King

My painting goes back in time to the days of the steam engine. Here, a passenger train makes a crew change while riders leave and board the train.  Painting was made viewing an old black and white photo. Scene probably was typical of the 1950s. Ink and watercolor.

Autumn Color

I am looking up into the trees on this nice autumn day. The sun is shining through the leaves showing more colors than the eye can imagine. Soon the leaves will be gone and bare limbs and trunks will show clearly. Winter is next. Ink and watercolor.

Mt. Hood, Oregon

Mt. Hood is located approximately 50 miles southeast of Portland, Oregon. It is over 11,000 feet in elevation and is the highest point in the state. Oregon has a string of beautiful mountains which run north and south through the middle. While in the city of Portland, one cannot miss this huge mountain while looking eastward. Trees

Healthy looking trees grow amongst the rocks on a slope in hill country. Slant of the trees show that the area gets some good winds which cause them to lean. Ink and watercolor.

Colorful Finch

This is a colorful little Cassin Finch. Entire families of finches seem to be all over the place only occasionally chased away by ornery Scrub Jays and Robins. The bird's beautiful colors prompted me to paint him. Ink and watercolor.

Downtown Lincoln

Our downtown area in Lincoln, California, has many old structures that have been in existence for a long time. But this building does not look too old, looks updated and is very attractive. This was sketched on a bright sunny day on site and completed at home. I added some vehicles for interest and made all tree leaves very green which adds some pop. Ink and watercolor.

Church Courtyard

This painting was started many years ago but I finally decided to finish it. This structure was in a desert area but I cannot remember the location. I used pen and ink, color dyes and watercolors. I like the detail in the architecture along with the desert colors and hints of green from the plant growth.

A Bird And Traffic Light

My painting shows an everyday traffic light that we all take for granted. I drew the image with brush and waterproof ink then scanned into my computer. With Photoshop I then added the color elements. The bird was added for interest. It’s like the bird was checking to see if it would have a home for the evening. Ink and Photoshop color.

Rainbow Bridge Roseville

This bridge is located in Roseville, California, heading into the "Old Roseville" district. I used black India ink and brush to draw this subject then I used watercolors to complete it. Drawing and painting loosely is a great change from my normal tight and detailed images. It is very stimulating and makes me produce an image with fewer lines. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Not A Toy

Guns scare me! Many of my relatives were hunters so I was around guns, was taught to shoot them and learned to live with them. Only guns I have used recently is a pellet gun and a B-B gun. Actually what I like to do with guns is draw them which I have done with this little gem. It looks innocent but in the wrong hands it can be dangerous. So I will just continue to draw them—it’s safer that way. Ink and watercolor.

California Grape Vineyard

This painting shows a grape vineyard typical for California. Some are larger, some are smaller, some are neater, some are secluded. But there are many because of the weather conditions that allow perfect grapes to be grown. The drought is over and water is plentiful so I expect a huge supply of grapes this year. Some will be used to make wonderful wines at the many wine tasting facilities. Be careful you don’t taste too much!!!! Ink and watercolor.

November Morning

My painting depicts an early morning scene in a wooded area as the first rays of light appear. Mornings are now cool and the waters are very still beneath the trees. The scene is very quiet and the birds have not yet begun to chirp. A hint of rain from the previous night’s rain lingers. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Favorite Foot Ware

Many years ago when I did a lot of walking, I bought a great pair of walking shoes which looked like these in the painting. They lasted many years and it was difficult to throw them away even when the heels began to fall apart, shoelace loops tore and bits and pieces of heavy stitching began to fail. Many of you know how sad it is when you must end your relationship with a favorite pair of foot ware.

Window Rock Arizona

This Arizona landmark means “the rock-with-hole-through-it”  according to Navajo translation. We know it today as “Window Rock”. Window rock is a small city located in eastern Arizona near the New Mexico border about 30 miles from Gallup, NM. It serves as the seat of government and capital of the Navajo Nation. Located on the high desert this landmark and city receive many tourists yearly. Ink and watercolor.

Sacramento Water Tower

This water tower is located on the southern rim of the city of Sacramento next to Interstate 5. I decided to paint this tower one day so here it is. Currently, the slogan reads “America’s Farm-To-Fork Capital”. For many years the slogan said “City Of Trees”. Many citizens are not happy with the change. Major discussions are taking place. Will they change it back? Who knows. Ink and watercolor.

Lilac Breasted Roller

A member of the roller family of birds found in Africa. Prefers open woodland and savanna. It is largely absent from treeless places. It perches conspicuously at the tops of trees, poles or other high vantage points from where it can spot insects, lizards, scorpions, snails, small birds and rodents moving about at ground level. Cute but dangerous. Ink and watercolor.SOLD

Angels Landing-Zion

Angels Landing is a 1,488 ft tall rock formation in Zion National Park in southern Utah. The Angels Landing Trail is one of the most famous hikes in the national park system. Zion's pride and joy runs along a narrow rock fin with steep drop-offs on both sides. The  trail culminates at a lofty perch, with great views in every direction. Climbers scale its walls; hikers pull themselves up by chains and sightseers stand in awe. The towering monolith is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Southwest. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Gated Residence

This is a residence you may find in an upscale Los Angeles area in California. Bold gated metal barrier keeps out passers-by, palm trees give shade and greenery to the front yard and the multi-story home looks solid with building blocks on the front façade. Don’t look for lots of details or straight lines in this painting because you won’t find any. Colors on home added wet on wet for blending effect. Ink and watercolor.

Old Arizona Bridge

This old bridge is located north of Snowflake, Arizona. It’s way out in the country and farmers may still haul over it and herds of cows might meander over it still. The Little Colorado River flows beneath the bridge. My illustration was inspired from an illustration done by the late Earl Thollander whose art I totally admire. Ink and watercolor.

Mission Santa Barbara

This old mission is located in southern California near the city of Santa Barbara. Many of the California missions were destroyed by fire or earthquakes since originally being built. This one was damaged by earthquakes and rebuilt and fortified. It still serves the community as a parish church and remains a major attraction for the city of Santa Barbara. Ink and watercolor.

Sketchy Victorian

My sketchy Victorian painting was done this past January 2017. I needed an additional painting for a formal art show and this was it. This original was the first to sell. It’s very sketchy!  Everything is done loosely--no straight lines, lines don’t connect and broad strokes of color give this painting a happy look. Ink and watercolor. SOLD

Abstract Containers

This still life painting was done last year when I was “into” still life paintings. This art is semi-abstract, no lines are super straight and background containers appear thru foreground containers. The use of a variety of colors also help give bottles their shapes. Ink and watercolor.

Country Antiques

In most rural areas of the USA, one can usually find discarded and abandoned vehicles. Some of these old treasures are ripped off for their parts and any other useable items. This old pickup no longer has its bed and definitely shows the wrath of time. Automobiles and farm equipment can also be discovered. Ink and watercolor.

Creek Bed And Bridge

Imagine a summer day, mid-afternoon, very hot, no breeze, high creek waters are gone and only a trickle of water remains. This is what it is like where I live. It was actually comfortable where I was sitting when I painted this. Since we have had a very welcomed, rainy winter, I look forward to warmer weather ahead. Ink and watercolor.

Southwestern Architecture

This simple painting displays the upper half of a large structure that you may find in the southwest part of the United States. This could be an office building, hotel, someone’s mansion or part of a shopping mall. These buildings are designed for the elements like rain and wind in this part of the country. Most corners are rounded and rain spouts stick out from the building to eliminate water from rooftops. Colors match the territory and trees add a pop of green. Ink and watercolor

Mt. Rushmore USA

This National Park is located in the state of South Dakota. It was a 14 year project completed in 1941 and it features former Presidents Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln. The sculpture on the side of a huge cliff was a major task. Each face is about 60 ft tall and mouths about 18 ft wide and the replication of the faces are very exact and real. When you see this monument in person it is fantastic. Ink and watercolor

A Nice Tiger

My painting of this tiger turned out to have the look of a nice, friendly wild animal. Of course it is not chummy and nice but I decided that it looks nice—the reason for the title. Tigers are an endangered species. They are indigenous to some of the more populated places on the planet which cause conflicts with humans. BEWARE. Safer to see them in zoos. They are beautiful.                  Ink and watercolor. SOLD
