Baseball Season Begins

Spring means the beginning of the baseball season and in April the big leaguers begin play for real. For us baseball buffs, this sport will always remain with us no matter if the game has changed dramatically. This pencil drawing with watercolor shows an old New York Yankee pitcher ready to fire away. While I'll be rooting for the Padres, Dodgers, Angels, Giants and A's to play well, I will also follow the minor league and college teams. Welcome baseball to another season.

Bonanza Air Lines Diary

Most of you probably never heard of this little airline. I drew this at San Diego's Lindbergh Field back in 1965 in my then DIARY but now called ART JOURNAL. The airport was much smaller then and we could get real close to the airliners to draw them. But as many others, this little airline went away and is only a memory to some of us who flew and drew these small puddle jumpers.

Spring Colors

I exhibited this at the Lincoln Hills Art Show in mid-February 2007 and it was the first of three paintings to sell. Personal note cards were also sold. Spring will soon be upon us and this flower watercolor painting reminds us that warmer, drier weather is upcoming. SOLD

Hawaii Lighthouse

This lighthouse ink and watercolor painting doesn't look very "Hawaiian" but it is. This view is in early morning just as the fog was clearing. I used a very wet-on-wet style on the shrubs and trees and more definition on the actual structure.

Lincoln Hills

This is one of the entrances to the retirement community where we live located about 20 miles north of Sacramento in northern California. I painted this to enter into the Lincoln Hills Art Show which was held in mid-February 2007. My challenge was to make this scene look lush and effectively show reflections on cool, fresh water. The water was the real struggle for me. The painting sold at this show and I am pleased with the overall effect. SOLD

Joshua Shadows

I love Joshua trees. Whenever I think of these trees I also think of heat, sun, desert and any warm weather climates around us. This ink and watercolor painting is an exercise in attempting to focus on the tree's silhouette and also its shadow which is such a major part of this painting. I sold this original at the Lincoln Hills Art Show in May 2006.SOLD
