Autumn Woods

Lots of color highlight this autumn scene in a wooded area far off the beaten path. Some leaves will remain green throughout the winter but the mixture of the leaves turning in color along with the remaining green is fantastic. Ink and watercolor, 8" x 10".PRINTS SOLD

Train Connection

Eventhough I am trying to loosen up on most of my art it's nice to tighten up once in a while just to make sure I can still do it. This drawing is looking down from the top of a railroad car. Now I know the subject matter is not that interesting but it's the detail I like. I drew the mechanical coupling that connects railroad cars together. Fiddle with this mechanism and the cars will be separated. I have always loved the heavy detail of these connectors--so heavy looking with massive sections. I used Micron pens along with Faber Castell "Shades of Grey" brush pens on Strathmore Smooth Bristol.

Juggling is Not Easy

This is a picture of me juggling the other day. Yeh, right! Actually, this is a drawing of a guy who can juggle. I thought I was reasonably coordinated until I tried juggling one day. Talk about humbling. Anyway, juggling is about one of the most difficult things to do next to trying to hit a 95 mile an hour fastball in baseball. I couldn't do that very well either. Enough of that. This drawing was difficult in that the hands and arms are key to this drawing. I tried to make the hands larger than normal because they were in front of the body. The man's head may be a little too large and the skin color too vivid. Now that I've slashed my artwork to bits, what are your comments? I drew this on bristol in ink and added the washes in watercolor for Illustration Friday's, Juggle.

Kaiser Waiting Room

I took my wife to her doctor appointment at Kaiser Permanente in Sacramento. I took my pens and drawing booklet and started sketching. I did several sketches that were OK but this one I liked the best. The man was sitting directly opposite me so I had a good view. He did not know I was drawing him and he stayed still for me. He was reading his newspaper and seemed very content. Pilot and Micron pens, 5" x 7", Strathmore sketch pad.

Tree At The Property Line

Painting of a lone tree near the property line near the barbed wire fence. Sometimes the cows rest here in the shadows. The left side of the painting had the sunlight while the right side showed the clouds of a rapidly approaching storm. Ink and watercolor, 8" x 10".

Auburn Promenade

The newer Auburn Promenade is the old Auburn Hotel located uptown Auburn, California. The refurbishment of the outside facade of this structure is really very nice--still old looking but updated. I love the detail on this building and I kept everything semi-loose. I decided against any washes or color. This is strictly pen and ink using Micron and Nexus pens and a Canson sketch pad, 11" x 14".
