Elaine's Colorful Teapot

We were rearranging my wife's teapot collection one day in our kitchen. I pulled a colorful little teapot to the side and started drawing. (After all the others were rearranged and in their new positions, of course.) I did the pen work then threw on the color. I plan to do more of these and have several currently in work.

San Diego Charger

LaDainian Tomlinson, of the San Diego Chargers, is setting records this season as one of the National Football League's premier runners. This original watercolor is a gift for my son Derek whose birthday is Christmas Day and who is an avid Charger fan. Go Chargers! GIFT

Owl Club

This is a pen and ink memory of my growing up years in northern California. This neat little neon sign was for a little bar located in Roseville, California. I remember the sign because my parents would take us to have Chinese food in a restaurant above the bar in the 1950s. Once we ordered our food, my Dad would slip downstairs, have a beer and rejoin us in time for dinner. After dinner as we walked to our car I would look up to see the colorful neon lights and "the owl" still peering down at us.

Colorful Rose

This rose is from one of the rose trees on the side of our home. The roses were in full bloom so I picked the largest and fullest one and painted it. This simple painting was done small on a 5" x 7" watercolor pad. These bright colors make a great image for my note cards.

Mask From Mexico

ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY
This is a painting of a woodcrafted mask made in Mexico many years ago. A neat feature of these realistic masks are the "operable eyelids" which open and close by pulling a string at the chin. The large, piercing eyes are glass and the eyelids have lashes. A reflective finish was due to a gesso undercoat applied to the wood, making shaping easier for the carver. My painting was done using a Lexus pen, watercolors and a Tombow water soluble pen.

Valley Home

So when it's cold I bring you something hot. This is a typical home in the Sacramento Valley. This one is neat and tidy and located in the heart of Lincoln, California. I parked across the street and studied and sketched the home. I then took photographs and completed the painting at home. The time of day was about 11 AM in August and the sun was almost directly above. The sky should be smoother but I like most of the painting. What do you think? Are the trees, shrubs and lawn OK? What about the overall colors and the shadowed areas? Can you spot my intended "focal point"? Your comments and suggestions are important to me. Please send me your observations.SOLD
