A Countryside Victorian

I did this sketch in my journal of part of a beautiful yellow Victorian residence that I found on a trip into Colorado. This home is just north of Colorado Springs. The amazing part about this home is that it looks so out of place in the countryside alongside farms and other normal country homes. Even though it looked out of place, it still looked beautiful. Hopefully, I can do a large rendering of this one of these days. Ink and watercolor.

Ghost Town

You will probably spook the spirits if you wandered through the main street of this old town. It is very quiet and still is a beauty for tourists. The wind blows through the boards of the old buildings making noises that have scared us since we were little. This artwork was a lesson in simplicity and to keep the old time feel, I did this with ink and washes of Alizarin Crimson and Paynes Gray. Ink and watercolor.

Quaint Little Village

Village street with European type structures looks peaceful and quiet as a little dog wags its tail wanting attention from somebody. Scenes like these are so peaceful and fun to sketch and paint...even if I was not actually there. I drew the image from a photo. Ink and watercolor.

Distant Clouds

Wide open spaces with some puffy clouds remind us of the beauty of nature. Clouds propagate themselves through the processes in nature using heat, cold, and ice above the earth's surface.

Luckily, even with all the populated areas in this country, there are thousands and thousands of acres of open space just like this--and beautiful puffy clouds like these to enjoy. Ink and watercolor

Lake Effect

This colorful autumn scene sparkles because of the dual use of colors on the real trees and the slightly subdued color of the reflected trees in the lake.

At times when doing reflections, I am not very careful in making the reflected image an exact replica of the real image which I did here. Most people do not catch it but I do and so will many of you in cyberspace. At times going too quickly allows this to happen. Ink and watercolor.

On Top Of The Bay

This is a simple little scene in a simple little village overlooking a scenic bay. With sailboats adrift in the bay, this painting shows that there are places that still remain calm and peaceful.

In fact, these type places are what people look for when choosing vacation spots. No cars on this street to worry about and the pace looks very slow. If they have good food and drink and a decent place to bunk down, it's my kind of spot. Ink and watercolor.

Speckled Effects

Playing with spatter and minimal lines, I developed this playful little image of simplicity. Ink and watercolor.

A Cabin's View

This spectacular view from a vacation cabin overlooking a lake and mountains would make anyone look forward to summer vacation. My painting depicts a quiet summer day with cool waters, fluffy clouds and evergreens near someone's favorite cabin. Ink and watercolor.

Above The Oasis

There may be many of these little respites in the desert. I don't know what they really look like but this seems to me what they could look like. The available water sits in the sand so it's not very muddy. Cool waters await parched travelers.

This was developed as I was doodling one day thinking of warm weather and palm trees. The warm colors of the sand against the cool blues and greens makes for a nice little painting. Ink and watercolor.

A Quiet Courtyard

A simple sketch of a quiet courtyard shows a simple side of life. Sometimes a quiet courtyard in the middle of the hustle and bustle of a noisy city can be a savior. This was drawn from a magazine but I eliminated some items from the original photo. I should have put some one sleeping in the chair. Ink and watercolor.

Night Driving Safari

A car heads west into the sunset in this early evening desert scene. Driving the deserts always bothered me, in particular, night driving. The "what-ifs" always played with my mind.

My 20 minute painting shows the loneliness of the desert. I merely threw colors down and did very little blending. I like the mood. Ink and watercolor.
