Farmers Market Basket

All across the country, the local growers are bringing their fruits and vegetables to the street markets. It's a great time of the year to purchase the freshest of all fruits and vegetables.

This image shows some carrots, corn and tomatos in a wicker basket ready to be purchased. July is actually the optimum time to enjoy. Tomatos are my favorite and it seems I gorge myself on them.

Go out to a local market and see all that is available.

Old Lines

Since I am in my old home town of Auburn at least once a week, I find it difficult to not stop to sketch this fascinating architecture at this old renovated hotel. It was once called the Auburn Hotel and now it is referred to as the Auburn Promenade which houses offices for merchants.

The old, worn lines are unique and so much fun to draw. 8" x 10", ink and watercolor.

On The Floor

When on the valley floor at Yosemite, everything seems quiet and calm. This painting is a sign of that serenity. While this scene looks peaceful and away from it all, hundreds of people were milling around close by. The odd part of this painting is that the leaves on the trees near the building are totally green while the tree reflecting off the glass of the building was already into its fall colors. Ink and watercolor.

June Bouquet

Simple watercolor of flowers done quickly. Looked at a variety of flowers and included them in this image. Artwork was done in one half hour. Came back later and added a few more leaves and sprouts. It's done!

Like my instructor says--"Terry--sign it and stop playing with it before you ruin it". All of you have probably been told that at some time.

Are They Drifting?

During church, this image of the backs of people's heads made me think "I wonder what they are all thinking about". They seemed to be listening to the sermon but; who really knows.

Enjoy the sketch but just remember someone may be behind you sketching the next time you are in church. You will be OK unless you start drifting off.

Steam Over The River

I re-created this painting from the book Banshee Train which was illustrated in watercolor by Ted Rose. I am a lover of trains and the manner in which Ted painted is an inspiration.

This painting reminds me of days past when I was a boy mesmerized by the beauty, strength and noise of huge trains that rumbled past. I still love all of that. This view is a steam engine with passenger cars somewhere in Colorado. Ink and watercolor, 18" x 22" framed.

Desert Abode

Desert home with spectacular view of the snow-covered mountains in the background shows that some dry areas are not totally parched. This scene is from New Mexico during the winter after heavy snows in the mountains.

Notice the family dog keeping an eye on, and a distance from, the not so friendly rattlesnake who is merely trying to warm his body. The snake probably should be hibernating and not out in the open since this is probably early spring time. Ink and watercolor.

Color Storm Unfolds

Here is another example of a "pouring" technique using the primary colors. Wet your paper. Mask out bits of your image area. Pour cobalt blue, alizarin crimson and lemon yellow on the damp paper. Tilt paper so that all the color begins to blend. Add a smattering of additional color if you wish. Let all dry. Come back in with ink pens or brush strokes to draw your image. Add bits of opaque white if needed.

It is interesting to see what unfolds while you are being very creative. Go ahead and try it! Do not save this technique for a rainy day. You will like it.

Middle America

This is an ink and watercolor of idle people at the tracks in a small town somewhere in the middle of the USA. Maybe there is not much to do in the middle of winter in a small town on a dark, cold day. But these locals have decided to spend their time chatting at the tracks. 16" x 20"

A Craving For Color

I drew this rustic old barn and surrounding scene with Prismacolor Premier Fine Line Markers.This is a departure from my normal ink and watercolor style. I liked using many colors with small-point pens for a change to satisfy my current craving for color.

Every now and then I think it's fun to try a different art style just for a change of pace. 8" x 10"

Coastal Village

This sketchy village is located along the sea somewhere in Europe. Colored roofs and tree covered hills highlight this ink and watercolor image.

The original large painting is 16" x 20". However, I took a pix of the large image to produce this small 11" x 14" image to test the colors I wanted to use. I liked the colors I chose. But, when I returned to the large image I added too much color and totally botched the painting. That is why I am posting this smaller version. Why I did not just match this small image I will never know! SOLD
