Classic Woody

Who remembers the classic woody?

Most of you viewing this image were not even born when these automobiles were the "in thing" if you were a surfer. This woody is all cleaned up but I remember these cars owned by surfers that were filthy and used to carry anything as well as being used to sleep in, eat in and party in if was too cold out on the beach. Swarms of these vehicles filled the parking lots.

I was not a surfer but I remember these old classics. They were the "in thing". Ink and watercolor. SOLD

This is an excellent sketch of a real classic automobile. I remember the wood paneling on many of the early fifties sedans, too. Especially the Mercury Monterey. Now days, cars are just about as bland an uninteresting as they can possibly get. Most are either a jelly bean shade of gray or black…how awful.

Looks like an old Morris Minor traveller I had in the UK years ago. I loved that car.

Terry - this is wonderful. I do remember them. I always thought they were cool. There is someone that has one that shows it at the Auburn Cruise Night. He even has the surfboards. Might not be as old as this one, however.

Also, thanks for your recent visit to my blog and for your comment.

I love these old surfer cars. I'm not a surfer either, but I am a CA beach bum, and my old yellow VW wagon was often filled with sand and memories of awesome sunsets on the coast.

Really nice detail Terry. The white on the vendors is perfect. I remember these in my days in Southern California.

My dad's dream car...hmmm, might even be a dream car for me.

It's funny though...as expensive as they are now, it's hard to imagine a dirty surfer in one.

This little gem sold immediately at my last art show. It was purchased by a guy named Woody and he remembered all the things he used to do with his woody when he was a surfer.

Thanks for all of your comments and I hope this image brought back some fond memories.

That is a great capture.

My neighbor has the front of one of these in his side yard. Or, at least it looks similar.

He hasn't touched it since he bought his FJ Cruiser.

Great art blog.

I'm a car guy so I love this illustration! I particularly like the perspective - nice job.
